You make some trips to Home Depot, watch some videos from the Idaho Painter, and you’re ready to brush and roll. Initially, this seems like a fantastic idea because it’s the most cost effective, but saving the money in the beginning may not exactly be worth the lack of quality or the headache, especially when problems arise, and they always do.
It is therefore highly recommended to consult professionals before making that first decision because fixing poorly painted surfaces are always more costly than just hiring professionals for interior painting from the start. Here are a few tips to consider before you decide to do it yourself.
What colors? Oh, that dreaded question that gives some people nightmares. One of the hardest decisions homeowners have to make is choosing the right color, and rightfully so. Colors look different in different types of lighting and different paints. There are also 50 shades to just about every color. A professional painting company will be able to offer current trends and outside the box patterns to truly make your home come alive.
There are four different ways professional companies typically help clients choose a color — a limited amount of free color samples, digital painting (not the most recommended), professional consultations and color swatches generally on a fandex. We like to use trained and experienced color consultants we have used over the years at Sherwin Williams to offer the absolute best advice possible beyond what we do in house. For more information check out our resources tab, then tips & ideas, and finally selecting colors.
Once colors are selected, we always recommend seeing the colors in person on draw downs (12 in by 12 in cards). Apply roughly two to three coats of the sample paint to give you the most accurate visualization possible. This way you can take the cards around to different parts of the house and see those colors in different lighting scenarios without having to paint all your surfaces. It is very time efficient. One thing to note is that more colors increase time and cost inside and out.
Just about anyone can paint, butprofessional painters deliver outstanding results. Splashing paint around is one thing, but doing a proper job requires expertise and preparation. Setting a bucket of paint in the middle of a room and lighting firecrackers is never a good idea. Professional painters have the techniques to not only make your interior look fabulous, but save time and energy. The ultimate goal as professionals is to not only add value to your home, but increase its resale value.
Whether you have plans to sell or not, could you live with a room potentially looking like this?
Colorado is a beautiful state and everybody here loves the outdoors, so why not take advantage of that by spending your precious time skiing, kayaking, fishing, climbing or enjoying what this wonderful state has to offer? Without adequate knowledge, expertise, equipment, and time, painting projects can take weeks if not months for homeowners. Yes, you save money doing it yourself, and hiring a painting company will always be more expensive, but how valuable is your time?
It’s no secret that professional painters have their own tools and equipment to get the job done. Besides this, however, true professionals also know the right paints and primers for the different surfaces and textures in your home (check out some of our paints under the resources tab to learn more). Painting professionals also get specialty products that are not available to homeowners. On top of all that our discounts allow you to reinvest that money into making your home look the absolute best it possibly can, saving you many headaches.
Aright, now you have the colors finally picked out and it’s time to do the work. Painting by yourself, however, is a very tiring process and could lead to unforeseen injuries: slippery floors, climbing up and down ladders, and health complications to name a few. Anything can happen in those scenarios. Professional painters are accustomed to dealing with the hazards of the trade on a day to day basis. Painting companies also have commercial insurance that covers aspects of a painting project that homeowners insurance unfortunately does not. A standard, general liability commercial insurance is what the majority of serious, professional painting companies have, and it is important to review that document prior to work commencing.
